ABOUT HELEN ~ AUTHOR / CONSULTANT / TUTOR
Helen’s interest in self-healing began when she was a student of Behavioral Psychology at University. After two years of science-based study she became disillusioned with this field as it did not deal with the emotional and social life of a person. She then went on to study the Social Sciences with a legal studies major - criminal law and social justice. She discovered the importance of social conditioning and personal experience on an individual’s emotions and behavior. Here, she learnt the significance of self-empowerment in a broader context. That is, a person’s right to know what is going on in the world in many different areas - politics, law, medicine - and how this impacts upon her/his life.
After graduating in 1994, Helen began to heal herself on a deeper level as a result of trying various alternative therapies. Most of these modalities involved dealing with the emotional causes of both physical and psychological problems which resulted in profound and lasting changes. This motivated her to study certain areas of interest such as, meditation, Yoga, Buddhism, Native American wisdom, Reiki, Kinesiology and Psychosomatics.
Helen also completed a writing course in 1997 as she planned on penning her healing experiences at some point in the future. In 1999 she became a consultant in alternative therapy.
In 2006 she discontinued her practice in order to work with children in child care and education. She was inspired by her training in education to create (adult) self-healing techniques and materials based on her previous experience in complementary therapy.
Helen re-established her practice in 2008, now working as an author, consultant and tutor whose aim is to empower her clients by educating them about healing, as well as other areas of life.
