So, this week we really need to express ourselves through the written word – we don’t have to be professional writers – this is often the excuse that most people use as to why they can’t or shouldn’t put pen to paper. The real reason most people avoid this form of creative expression is because it is too confronting. When we see something that we have been trying to dance around or suppress, for whatever reason, in front of us (usually) in black and white, it becomes all too real and must be dealt with. We have all been experiencing such massive change of late that we need to make sense of it and find ways to release pent up emotions and recurring or obsessive thoughts.

Keeping a journal is a fantastic way to sort through the aftereffects of tumultuous times and no-one else need ever read what you have written. If this seems too daunting for you, start by jotting down words or phrases on a notepad just to get them out of your system: “I am soooo pissed-off right now!” or “I want to SCREAM!!!” will help you release anger and frustration especially if you are in a situation where you cannot express your emotions (e.g. a  work meeting).

It is important to write without censoring anything – the truth shall set you free – yes, it’s a cliche but it is true (cliches tend to be true). If you keep going like this, you will be amazed at the insight that will pour out from within you.
