Thinking: the talking of the Soul with itSelf. ~ Plato
A very profound statement there by one of the best philosophers of all time.
During a psychology class at my university, we were told that positive self-talk is one of the best forms of problem-solving. So, Plato knew what he was saying. In fact, in my very first class, we were told that psychology began as a philosophical branch of study in Greece – so, there you have it.
Psychology is Greek for “the study of the soul.”
Side note: The earliest existing text that refers to PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) was written by Herodotus, the Father of History.
Even though he was not a philosopher, he noticed something about the human condition related to trauma. In fact, back in the day, Socrates encouraged everyone to be a philosopher. Most people are capable of rational thought, discussion, the passing on of wisdom – philosophy in a nutshell. This is why he was considered dangerous by the rulers of that time. They did not want people thinking for themselves. It seems that history is repeating itself but this tyrannical cycle is about to come to a permanent end.
