For everything there is a season,
And a time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep silent, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time for war, and a time for peace.
The Bible
The word ‘time’ is referred to seventeen times in this bible passage (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). This makes sense because, after all, it is about timing – the seasonal, cyclical nature of all life. Not only is it truthful, it has been a great source of comfort for me – well, at least the first couple of lines which I heard mentioned in a song many years ago called, “Turn! Turn! Turn!” by The Byrds. After a while it became easier for me to repeat the mantra, “This too shall pass.”
Unfortunately, too many people have lost connection to the sacredness of proper timing. Everything needs to be now, or better still, yesterday. Instant gratification, instant porridge, instant coffee… This causes a great disconnection from life and from self which in turn causes several physical and psychological disturbances (e.g. headaches, insomnia, anxiety attacks, depression, etc.). If you are already in pain (or repressing it), a daily dose of external stress will make things far worse for you.
Resetting Your Inner Clock
There are several ways to get back in tune with your inner rhythms – the most accessible is going outside. Even if there are no trees or bodies of water in sight, looking up at the sky, or breathing in natural air (as opposed to the air-conditioned variety) and getting some sunlight (which is possible even on cloudy days), will reconnect you with minimal effort.
Then you have your creative outlets – anything that you love to do will reconnect you with your own soul, thus giving you a B line to what is right for you, when it is right for you, without anyone else’s interference.
Divinatory tools (e.g. oracle cards, tarot cards, runes etc.) are also very accessible ways of tapping into guidance specifically from you, and for you, at a certain point in time. Again, it is about tuning in to your personal cycles in order to create the best possible life for yourself.
Stepping In Time With The Clock Of Life
In the grander scheme of things, there is so much that is not about you that still has an effect on you. For example, you cannot control the seasons, the weather, the sunrise and sunset, what other people choose to do, or not to do… If you can align yourself with these aspects of life, you are well on your way to developing great timing. Your life will never be perfect, but overall, you will create greater peace and harmony.
