In my experience, healing or helpful dreams, may be grouped into three categories:

1/ Psychotherapeutic

2/ Revelatory

3/ Prophetic

Psychotherapeutic

The psychological healing power of dreams lies in their ability to help you release negative emotions and to gain a deeper understanding of your emotional issues. Below is an excerpt from one of my articles, Accessing The Inner Healer:

Analyzing your dreams is a great way to resolve your problems. If they are too ‘symbolic’ you may not understand them and other people’s interpretations may not be relevant for you. It is possible to ‘program’ the SC (subconscious) by asking it (i.e. telling yourself) to give you answers, in a literal, easily understood way which will be effortlessly recalled by you in the morning.

An example: George finds it difficult to trust women. He knows that this is directly related to the fact that his mother cheated on his father when he was six years old. As he cannot afford to go to therapy he has been writing about the whole thing in his journal but does not believe that this has helped him. George reads an article about how dreams can help heal emotional issues so one night before bed, he asks his subconscious how he can let this go – he has the following dream: he is sitting opposite his mother at the family dining table and begins speaking of how her actions have affected him…he becomes quite enraged and calls her just about every swear word there is…then he is handed a piece of paper by his mother with the words “I’m sorry” written on it. George woke up suddenly feeling like a huge burden had been lifted. He quickly wrote down the dream and realized that he required his mother to take responsibility for the pain she had caused before he could move on with his life.

In the above example, George asks his subconscious to help him heal an issue. In most cases, you will have dreams that help remedy all kinds of concerns without consciously asking for this help.

The symbolic nature of dreams may make them difficult to decipher. With practice, it will become easier to analyze your own dreams. In the meantime, learn more about how to understand them here.

Revelatory

You may discover things in your dreams that you were not aware of in real life – this category is usually a mixture of the other two categories. This is because revelatory dreams can be prophetic in that they show you – or warn you – about something that will protect you from some unpleasant individual, or situation.

This type of revelation may also be psychotherapeutic since it may end some type of pain, or toxic pattern of past experiences. For example, if you are about to marry someone who is already cheating on you. Your dream clearly demonstrates that this person is unfaithful. You may also do your own research to verify what you saw in your dream. If you have been in several relationships where your partners have betrayed you, this experience may help you end that negative pattern.

Revelatory dreams may also provide answers to problems that you could not work through in waking life. If you are having a hard time deciding between two or more, jobs, residences, lovers etc., your dreams may help you to make the appropriate choice.

In addition, revelatory dreams may present you with knowledge that is difficult, if not impossible, to access any other way, such as, the answers to mathematical or scientific queries.

Prophetic

Prophetic dreams can offer warnings to protect you from being harmed by certain events, or people. If you are very psychic, you may even dream about events that affect people in other parts of the world. I would place my dreams of global cataclysms in this category – some of these events have already happened.

Prophetic dreams may also be positive – a personal example is the dream I had around twenty years ago of a man that I met several months after the dream. When we were introduced, it was my first experience of ‘love at first sight’.
