The term ‘New Age’ has been overexposed and misunderstood by many especially in recent years. Considering the fact that my company name contains this term, I too (or my work) have been prejudged by it. The assumption is almost always that what I do revolves around the spiritual realms – the non-physical world. To some extent this is true, as spirit permeates everything but of course, there is so much more to it than this. In my opinion, the New Age is all about self-empowerment.
This inner sense of power is spiritual because your soul is your power – it is the energy or the source of your life. Most New Agers will recommend that you meditate in order to get in touch with it – this is a very much needed passive or inactive way of separating yourself from all of the external distractions that serve to disempower you (e.g. the evening news, the Kardashians, gossip, overwork and so on), however, you also need to take action to connect completely with your true self. This externalization of the real you usually takes the form of doing what you love to do.
What you are passionate about is always an indication of what you are here to do which is always a reflection of your true self. Provided that you are not a psychopath who feeds off of the energy of others (I assume that everyone reading this is not such an entity) what you feel strongly about and couldn’t imagine your life without, is YOU. This is not an easy road to travel as it involves not conforming – it means creating your own path which is lonely and painful. There will also be much criticism from others who would want to bring you back to the flock (or to bring you down as you remind them of the challenging healing work that they need to do in order to get to where you are), but this is par for the course (I have written about this in the following post: Being Real: Reaching the Summit of Self-empowerment). Staying true to yourself throughout these events is the essence of spiritual power.
I see that self-empowerment is on the rise. Not only are more and more people waking up to this reality, they/you also have the means to do what empowers you via the new forms of technology now available: YouTube, Amazon, blogs (i.e. the internet). In other words, you do not need to wait around for others to give you permission to do what you were born to do.
Here I am, on my blog communicating to you what I believe spiritual power is all about in the New Age. In what way will you use the internet – or anything else for that matter – to empower yourself?
“The one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The one who walks alone, is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been.”
~ Albert Einstein
Happy Self-empowerment!
